DosTips Progress.bat possible code typo

Was going through and testing out some of the bat files and functions in dostips. One of particular interest to me was the Progress.bat as shown here: http://www.dostips.com/DtCodeBatchFiles.php#Batch.Progress While testing it out I *think* I came across a typo in the code. Line 3 of the code: call ...

Re: MSIexec Not setting %ERRORLEVEL% even when using START

Hi Carlos. Unfortunately, that didn't work. Still returns 0 as if nothing went wrong with the install. :?

MSIexec Not setting %ERRORLEVEL% even when using START

I'm testing this bat file from 2 different locations. One from my desktop in a folder called "Testing Area". The other location is on the root directory of a thumb drive. I'm testing the 2nd IF %ERRORLEVEL% statement by not including the installer in the same path as the bat file so that i...

Re: Setting a variable from an entire txt file

Thanks foxidrive. That works, but just for this particular example. There can be a bazillion errors that can pop up, all with output that is different. In this particular example it's 5 lines, but it may be 3 or 1 or none or 10. I believe the only way to get past this issue is by giving the txt file...

Re: Setting a variable from an entire txt file

Ok. Decided to go with Jeb's approach and it works great so far and seems really fast. I modified several things which I've pointed out in the code. However, 1 more bit of icing on the cake to complete this is sending errors to a msgbox. I'll explain after the code below. @echo on if not "%mini...

Re: Setting a variable from an entire txt file

Doh! Never mind. It was working. I just had to include a pause to at least show it on the screen. <---- amateur hour. Works great guys! Thank you!

Re: Setting a variable from an entire txt file

Ok. So finally all my American Thanksgiving festivities have subsided I can return to testing things out. I tried jeb's code and have come to the conclusion between this and another thread here that I'm beginning to think that I program bat files differently than other people do. More to the point, ...

Re: Programming helpful tool suggestions

WHOA!! Aacini! I'm so psyched at the possibility of this. Not just for me, but for all of us who spend countless hours trying to debug just to find out it was one character off or whatever. However, I say "possibility" because I saw this and threw everything else out the window on Thanksgi...

Re: Setting a variable from an entire txt file

Thanks for the replies everyone. Aacini, I thought about it at first and didn't want to do an array, however, rethinking about it, it could become useful. And penpen, I haven't tried it yet, but will. But I'd like to first answer foxidrive. foxidrive Why do you need to do this? The answer to that wi...

Re: Programming helpful tool suggestions

Samir,

My notepad++ comes with keyword highlighting. Not necessarily syntax highlighting. Some examples it highlights FOR or SET, variables. It doesn't tell you if they're wrong. It is helpful though.

Re: Programming helpful tool suggestions

I get where you're going with writing everything out. I usually draw up an outline. I guess I just figured some of you had some windows tools that move things along a little quicker for you. After 25 years of programming figured you'd get annoyed when you're running a batch file and you're scratchin...
