Not all systems have powershell by default. A batch syntax is simpler and more familiar to most people. The batch scripting is funnier than powershell.

You are right. I subtitled "remote machines" in my head as servers, but that isn't necessarily the case (servers without PowerShell are very hard to come by)

True that. I like the challenges that a limited toolset bring ("In der Berschraenkung zeigt sich der Meister" ((von) Goethe)).
PowerShell is almost too easy; everyone and their mother can do that ..
