mode.com for a 98 boot disk?

#1 Post by taripo » 28 Jan 2013 04:31

i've got this windows 98 boot disk
http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=196

it's not bad.. but it doesn't have MODE.COM which I want, so as to set rate and delay, to make the keyboard more receptive.

I tried a "mode.com" from an ME boot disk but got the message like, incorrect dos version.

And what do people here use for their boot disks? 6.22? or like a 9X one eg DOS 7? presumably something with all the basic commands all there and working and no "incorrect dos/msdos version". Anything online with it?

Haven't had the need for one for many years. Always got my boot disks from Bootdisk.com or allbootdisks.com/

the site you suggest does not have MODE.COM on its Windows 98 boot disk and i'm asking about MODE.COM Notice it is not in the list.
http://www.allbootdisks.com/disk_contents/98.html

and all the bootdisk.com win98 disks don't have MODE.COM either.

I tried putting setver.exe from an msdos 6.22 boot disk on there.

i've put device=c:\abc\setver.exe in config.sys

then I see running c:\def\mode.com gives incorrect dos/msdos version

I try running setver.exe and it says it's not loaded and should be put in config.sys, though i've put it there.

it's a 98 boot disk so maybe it doesn't work 'cos it's a 6.22 setver.exe?

FWIW here's my config.sys it's a bit complicated looking I didn't write it, I got it from
http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=196
but I just added setver.exe from a 6.22 boot disk, with a line in config.sys referring to setver.exe

When I execute setver.exe after loading it up, I find it says setver is not loaded. I doubt that's to do with my config.sys Though i'd guess that maybe it's either that, or the fact that it's from a 6.22 boot disk.

This mode.com from a win98 boot disk, which would be useful to me..
http://58.148.120.58/130128/01_98/WINDO ... D/MODE.COM

Is a broken link.

And no luck with setver.exe (or the one I have anyway copied from a 6.22 boot disk) as mentioned.

my setver.exe from msdos 6.22 isn't giving incorrect msdos version when I run it(good) but even with it loaded, the mode.com I am using still gives incorrect dos/msdos version so Maybe I need setver.exe from a win98 boot disk, but I don't have it.

thanks, that w98 mode.com worked! And that site's got w98 setver.exe so loads nicely too. I run setver it doesn't say it's not loaded, so it's loaded!
